Say hello to one of the cutest little additions to our keychain collection—a tiny crochet boat! This quick and beginner-friendly crochet keychain pattern makes a cute little boat that’s small enough to clip onto your keys, backpack, or just as a small boat for little hands to play with.
The shape was inspired a simple origami boat – because who doesn’t love those! The best part? The amigurumi boat pattern is completely no sew and is worked as one piece. It’s a great stash busting project and it works up super fast – in well under an hour!

Pattern Inspiration
This crochet boat isn’t just cute—it’s symbolic. The design was inspired by the Global Sumud Flotilla, a movement of brave civilians sailing from around the world to Gaza. As Israel’s genocide in Gaza nears two years, the world’s governments have failed to act, despite their obligation under international law. In the face of this silence, ordinary people are taking extraordinary risks: gathering together in boats to break the siege and bring aid to Palestinians.
The flotilla has over 40 boats with people from all over the world. Israel has already targeted the flotilla with two drone attacks, yet the boats persist. These boats represent more than aid—they represent the courage of ordinary people who refuse to look away, and who insist on standing for justice.
This crochet boat keychain (especially the watermelon variation!) is our small way of honouring that courage and showing solidarity with the flotilla. You can crochet this or any one of this collection of Palestine-themed crochet patterns in solidarity.

Crochet Boat Pattern Notes
About the Pattern
- Difficulty level: Familiar Beginner
- Finished size: Approximately 3 inches wide, using DK yarn
- This pattern is written in US terms
- This is a no sew amigurumi crochet boat pattern
- This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker on the first stitch of every round so that you don’t lose track of the start of your round.
Yarn & Sizing Adaptations
- This boat was made using DK yarn. However, you may use any yarn with the relevant hook (usually, for amigurumi you go down 2-3 sizes from that recommended on the yarn label). However, the sizing will change based on the yarn thickness.
Tips & Pattern Adaptations
- Pattern Adaptations: To make a watermelon boat, use red as the sail colour. The boat should begin with green yarn and change to white for the last round (Round 18). Then use black yarn to embroider on seeds to the sail of the boat.
- Use the invisible finish to finish the boat to give it a neater finish.

Boat
Change to the boat colour

Round 11: Chain 1. Press the sail closed and SC through the stitches on both sides of the sail to crochet it closed. (10)
In the next round, we will be crocheting around the sail to make the base of the boat. To do this, we will first work in the back loops and then in the front loops.
Round 12: Chain 1 and turn. In BLO make 9 SC and INC in the last stitch. Now we will continue to the other side of the piece. In the remaining loops on the other side of the piece, make 9 SC and INC in the last loop (22)
Round 13: INC, 8 SC, INC in each of the next three stitches, 8 SC, INC in the last two stitches (28)
Round 14: 28 SC in BLO
Round 15: (13 SC, INC) twice (30)
Round 16: (14 SC, INC) twice (32)
Round 17: (15 SC, INC) twice (34)
If you’re making a watermelon keychain, change to white now.
Round 18: 34 SC (34)
Fasten off using an invisible finish. Weave in the ends. Embroider on the mast of the boat by embroidering a straight line from the base of the sail to the top on both sides. If you’re crocheting the watermelon adaptation, use black yarn to embroider on watermelon seeds to your boat.
You can now attach a keychain to the top of your boat.
Your crochet boat is now complete!
