How to Crochet the Maya Doll with Pigtails

Body

To begin, you will need to make the basic Kozu Palm Pals crochet doll body for each of the dolls. Once you have made the body, come back here and we’ll begin Maya’s hair and clothes!

Pigtails Hair Cap

Note: This pattern is for the pigtails hair cap. However, any of the hair caps from our Kozu Palm Pals crochet dolls will fit this doll.

Round 1: 6 SC into a magic circle

Round 2: INC in each stitch around (12)

Round 3: (SC, INC) six times (18)

Round 4: (2 SC, INC) six times (24)

Round 5-7 (3 rounds): SC around (24)

Round 8: SC around and sl st to the first stitch. Chain 1 and turn (24)

Note: The hair cap width can vary based on the yarn that you’re using so try it onto your doll’s head and see if you want to increase or decrease rounds here before working on the final round.

Round 9: 2 DC, 2 HDC, 16 SC, 2 HDC, 2 DC (24)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew your hair cap onto your doll.

Pigtails (make 2)

Round 1: 3 SC into a magic ring.

Round 2: *Chain 16. Starting from the second chain on your hook, sl st 15 stitches back down the chain, sl st into the next stitch.* Repeat between ** three times and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the pigtails onto each side of the head.

Tip: You can adjust the length of the pigtails by adjusting the length of your chain. If you want the pigtails to be more curly, add increases every few stitches (the more frequent the increases are, the curlier the pigtails will be).

If you want to add a hair tie, take yarn of any colour you like and chain the length that fits around your pigtails, once they are sewn onto the head. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing and sew the chain around the pigtails as a hair tie.

Clothes

Tip: The clothes were designed using the same hook and yarn size as the doll. However, as you are making the clothes, keep trying them on your doll to ensure that they fit. If they are too snug or too big, you can go up or down a hook size.

The clothes should be put onto your doll from legs up, rather than over the head.

The clothes are crocheted in joined rounds. The slip stitch and chain between rounds do not count as stitches.

Note: This pattern is for a skirt and a sleeveless blouse. However, the clothes are removable so you can dress her up with the clothes from any of the other dolls in our Kozu Palm Pals Dress Up Crochet Dolls series.
