Dash the Crochet Dog Free Pattern

Crochet an easy amigurumi dog with us!

Dash the crochet dog is the second member of our Juna Series of crochet animals! When we started the series, we knew we had to crochet a dog for the collection. Both of us had dogs as pets growing up. Since we currently don’t have pets, why not crochet a dog for ourselves instead, right?

This amigurumi dog comes dressed in long pants and a fancy embroidered shirt (because why not? lol). There’s something so cute about animals in human clothes, isn’t there – they just make me giggle. And an embroidered shirt on a crochet dog? Well, that is just cuteness overload!

Dash is the perfect gift to crochet for dog lovers in your life! You could even adapt the yarn colour to match the colouring on a favourite pet dog. This dog would also make a cute crochet gift for little ones in your life to cuddle.

About this Crochet Dog Pattern

This crochet dog pattern works up easily, with the legs and body in one piece. In fact, we even have the option to crochet on the arms and ears onto your dog- leaving just the muzzle and tail to sew! Less sewing – yay!

If you’re wondering how to crochet a dog for beginners, this pattern is a great fit for you. The muzzle is crocheted around the chain, however, we have a detailed tutorial teaching you how to crochet ovals that will make it super easy to do!

Dash’s shirt has some embroidery, but we have a step-by-step photo tutorial on how to embroider the details on the shirt. Plus, you could always leave off the embroidery if you prefer.

This crocheted dog works up to approximately 8 inches in height, making it the perfect cuddle companion for little ones!

If you prefer to sew the arms to your dog, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff the rest of the arm.

Muzzle

Tip: The base shape of the dog’s muzzle is an oval, so we will be crocheting around chain, rather than a magic circle as we usually do with amigurumi. If you are new to crocheting around a chain, we have a tutorial on how to crochet an oval for amigurumi.

Use beige yarn.

Round 31-41 (11 rounds): SC around (48)

At this point, stuff the muzzle and sew it on between Rounds 31 and 37, centered to the front of your dog. Now that you have your muzzle in place, insert your safety eyes between Rounds 35 and 36 so that they are evenly spaced on either side of the muzzle, approximately 12 stitches apart. Embroider on eyebrows, nose and smile.

Stuff the body.

Round 42: (SC 6, INVDEC) six times (42)

Round 47: (SC, INVDEC) six times (12)

Ensure that the body is stuffed firmly.

Round 48: INVDEC six times (6)

Fasten off. Insert needle in front loop of each stitch and pull tight to close. Sew the arms on between Rounds 29 and 30 and the ears 6 rounds from the top, if you haven’t already attached them.

Tail

Use brown. Stuff lightly as you go.

Round 1: SC 4 into a magic circle (4)

Round 2: (SC, INC) twice (6)

Round 3: SC around (6)

Round 4: INC, 5 SC (7)

Round 5: SC around (7)

Round 6: INC, 6 SC (8)

Round 7: INC, 7 SC (9)

Round 8: INC, 8 SC (10)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Sew the tail on where the pants meet the shirt in the dog (between Round 18 and 19).

Now embroider the design on the shirt. There will be 5 motifs in the two rows of green between the yellow stripes. Each motif will be 2 stitches apart. Start with the centre motif and work your way to both sides. This will help centre the embroidery.
