Mahjong Crochet Keychain (Free Pattern)

Has the Mahjong craze hit your life? Then this Mahjong crochet tile keychain is perfect for you!

Mahjong is a Chinese four-player game using tiles that is popular around the world. It has really taken ahold in my friends group in Karachi over the last year. A number of them (including Kiran!) are really addicted to this game. In fact, a friend of mine has documented a style of Mahjong that is unique to Karachi. How cool is that? (You can checkout her very informative Mahjong blog!)

As they say, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. So while I haven’t played the game itself, I thought I could participate in the way that I know how: crocheting an adorable mahjong keychain! Of course, it doesn’t have the oh-so-satisfying clacking of traditional tiles. But it makes for an adorable bag charm!

I couldn’t decide whether to make a traditional mahjong keychain or a cute kawaii one with eyes – so I decided to just do both! This pattern takes under 30 minutes to make so it’s super quick. I hope you enjoy it!

About the Pattern

  • Difficulty level: Beginner
  • Finished size: Approximately 1.75 inches long, using DK yarn

  • This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker on the first stitch of every round so that you don’t lose track of the start of your round.

Yarn & Sizing Adaptations

  • This mahjong keychain was made using DK yarn. However, you may use any yarn with the relevant hook (usually, for amigurumi you go down 2-3 sizes from that recommended on the yarn label). However, the sizing will change based on the yarn thickness.

Pattern Tips
