Small Crochet Frog Amigurumi (Free Pattern!)

We have the cutest new addition to our Kozu Palm Pets series of small crochet animals: a small crochet frog! While frogging can be a crocheters nightmare, a small crochet frog is just the perfect antidote. This small crochet frog pattern is really easy to crochet. It has the same body as all of the other small animals in the series but with the addition of the cutest eyes on the top of his head! I love his goofy-cute look!

The entire series has been doing really (like really!) well at our craft markets and this little frog has been super popular. We always also like to make the animals in the series with super bulky yarn for a quick large crochet frog. This frog turns out to be 11 inches tall with super bulky yarn and is just adorable!

With super bulky yarn and a 7mm crochet hook, this cute frog turns out to be 11 inches tall!

So let’s not waste time and let’s crochet a small frog together!

Small Frog Crochet Pattern Notes

  • Difficulty level: Easy
  • Finished size: Approximately 4 inches tall, using DK yarn.
  • This pattern is written in US terms
  • This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker on the first stitch of every round so that you don’t lose track of the start of your round.
  • This frog was made using DK yarn. However, you may use any yarn with the relevant hook (usually, for amigurumi you go down 2-3 sizes from that recommended on the yarn label).
  • This is a low-sew amigurumi pattern. The legs, body, arms, and head are all crocheted in. You must first crochet the arms before continuing onto the body.
  • Sizing adaptations: You can make the frog in multiple sizes. We made it using DK yarn and a 3.25mm hook and it turned out to be approximately 4 inches tall. In chenille yarn, it was approximately 6 inches tall. And with super bulky blanket yarn with a 7 mm hook, it was approximately 11.5 inches tall.

How do you crochet a large frog?

If you would like to crochet a large frog, you can use a thicker yarn and this little guy will magically grow in size (haha!). No but seriously, with super bulky blanket yarn, he turns out to be 11 inches tall – making the cutest large frog!

If you would prefer to use DK yarn or worsted weight yarn for a large frog, try Flippy the frog, a super easy crochet frog pattern!

What is frogging in crochet?

While crocheting a frog is one of the cutest things in crochet, frogging in crochet is a nightmare for crocheters! Frogging means opening up your work by pulling on it to redo parts of it. It’s called frogging because you rip-it, rip-it, rip-it (haha!). As a designer, trust me, frogging is something I do often and also vehemently dislike! lol
