We are super excited to announce our newest crochet along! We will be crocheting the newest animal in our Juna Series of easy crochet animals: Rudolph the Crochet Reindeer. This adorable little red-nosed guy is simple to make and is perfect for gifting during the holiday season.

The CAL will be divided into four parts over nine days, from December 2 through December 8. We’ve kept the parts pretty short and manageable in less than an hour or so per day.

If you are too impatient to wait for the CAL release schedule or if you prefer to have an ads-free, print-friendly PDF version of the pattern, you can buy it from our Ravelry Store for 20% off until December 10 with the code HOLIDAYCAL All the proceeds of the sale of the pattern during the CAL will go to an organization providing humanitarian relief in Gaza.

Before we begin on Monday (December 2), take a look below and gather your materials, get familiar with our stitches and abbreviations, and look at our frequently asked question. Crochet Along (CAL) Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CAL?

A CAL, or a crochet-along, is an event where we all crochet the same thing. It’s a really fun way to connect with other crocheters around the world by working on the same project together.

The way it will work is that we will be releasing the pattern in parts every few days. As each part is released, you will crochet that part and wait until the next part is available. We are going to release the pattern over ten days (from Monday, December 2 through Sunday, December 8 ) to give everyone ample time to complete each part in a relaxed and easy way.

What do I have to do to participate in the CAL?

To join our CAL, there are no requirements, you just have to participate! There are many ways you can do this:

  • Be sure to sign up for our newsletter above to get notified in your Inbox of each part as it’s released.
  • Since a crochet along is about crocheting in community, it may be fun to join our Facebook Community, so that you can share your progress each day and we can all help one another by answering questions, clarifying any confusion, or just oohing and aahing and supporting one another!
  • You can also share your progress on Instagram using the hashtag #chaicoffeecrochetcal and tag us @chaicoffeecrochet  Plus, you can follow the hashtag to see the progress of others on Instagram and admire their creations! We will also share projects in our stories during the CAL.

What skill level do I need to join the CAL?

This CAL is suited to crocheters of all skill levels! The pattern is simple. Plus, we will try to share tips and tricks that will make it even easier as we go along. And if you’re ever having any trouble, you can always reach out to our Facebook community so that we can all jump in and help one another.

If you’re a beginner, we also wanted to recommend Planet June’s tutorials for any amigurumi-related skills (i.e. the magic ring, invisible decrease, how to change colour, etc) that you aren’t familiar with. Her tutorials are great – and she usually has a left and right handed version for each step. You can find her tutorials on her blog here.

What yarn do you use and do I need to use DK yarn?

We use an acryllic DK yarn locally available to us in Pakistan. However, any yarn will do (it doesn’t need to be DK!). In fact, the yarn that we use is a thicker weight DK yarn (between DK and aran/worsted weight). Our pattern testers use a variety of yarns – including worsted weight – and their toys come out great (albeit slightly larger). So just use whatever yarn you have on hand (or enjoy working with). Just be sure that you adjust the hook size to go with the yarn that you use (in amigurumi, you typically go down a couple hook sizes from the hook size recommended on the yarn label to allow for tighter stitches so that your stuffing doesn’t show).

What if I fall behind and can’t keep up with the pattern as it’s released?

That is not a problem at all! There is no compulsion to finish the project based on the deadlines – it’s just a fun way to participate. The pattern will continue to be available for free after the CAL is complete and so you can complete the pattern in your own time.

What if I want to work ahead and get the full pattern now?

The free pattern will only be available based on the schedule. However, if you want the full pattern now, you can buy an ads-free, print-friendly PDF of the pattern from our Ravelry Store
