Small Crochet Cow – Free Pattern

One of our favourite animals, this small crochet cow is the newest member of our Kozu Palm Pets series of small crochet animals. While it is the seventh animal in the series, it was actually the first one we designed. My cousin was turning 50 and I wanted to crochet her something special. She lives on a lovely farm and so I thought a farm animal was perfect and so this small cow pattern was born (and it was the start of such an adorable little series!).

This cow is really fun and quick to make and I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

With super bulky yarn, this cow turns out to be 11 inches tall!

About this Small Cow Crochet Pattern

This small crochet cow pattern is a low-sew amigurumi pattern. That means that the legs, body, arms, and head are all crocheted in one piece! You just need to be sure to crochet the arms first so that they are ready once you are ready for the body.

This small crochet cow takes just 2 hours to crochet, making it perfect for last minute gifting. While it works up to be just 4 inches tall, you can use super bulky yarn to crochet your cow and it turns out to be a 11.5 inches tall – and no longer small. Just a really quick crochet make for your next craft fair!

This cute little cow is part of our Kozu Palm Pets series of small crochet animals. So you could make a complete farm animal collection!

Pattern Notes & Tips

  • This cow is crocheted in continuous rounds unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker on the first stitch of every round so that you don’t lose track of the start of your round.

  • This cow pattern is a low-sew amigurumi pattern. The legs, body, arms, and head are all crocheted in. You must first crochet the arms before continuing onto the body.

Change to white

Round 2-6 (5 rounds):  SC around (6)

Is it hard to crochet this cow?

No, it’s not hard to crochet this cow. This cow just uses a mix of single crochet stitches, which are really basic. You do need knowledge of basic amigurumi techniques such as the magic circle, colour changes, and invisible decreases. However, these are all simple techniques that a beginner can learn.

You also need to know how to crochet around a chain and how to join legs for amigurumi.

What is the easiest crochet cow pattern?

While this pattern is easy to crochet, given that it uses basic stitches, you may also like to try our easy crochet cow from our Juna Series of easy crochet animals.

What yarn do I need to use to crochet a cow?

The best thing about amigurumi is that it usually works well with any yarn that you have on hand! We crocheted this cow using DK yarn – however a number of a our pattern testers have used worsted weight yarn as well. We also made larger versions using velvet yarn and blanket yarn. So depending on what yarn you have on hand, what size you want your cow to be, and what yarns you prefer to work with, the sky is the limit!

How do you crochet a large cow?

If you prefer to crochet a larger cow, you can use thicker yarn and a larger hook. This crochet cow pattern works up really well in super bulky blanket yarn and turns out to be 11.5 inches tall, making for a great quick large cow pattern. For the large cow, use 16mm safety eyes.

If you would prefer a larger cow using the same pattern, our Cleo the crochet cow pattern turns out to be 8 inches tall.

How long does it take to crochet a cow stuffed animal?

This cow takes two to three hours to crochet, depending on your speed as a crocheter. It works up really quickly, which means that you can make more and more patterns!

They all work up in a couple of hours too! You could also try our crochet keychains or our small crochet dolls, all of which are also low-sew amigurumi patterns.
