Faiz small crochet boy doll with overalls

Mini crochet boy doll amigurumi with overalls

Faiz, the small crochet boy doll is, along with our little Lyla crochet doll, was the first doll of our entire Kozu Palm Pals mini amigurumi dolls series. My nephews wanted little siblings for their larger dolls and so I decided to crochet them little dolls. Of course, there had to be a small boy crochet doll in the mix. As boys, they have wondered why there are hardly any boy dolls around – and we agree with them!

Boys need a space to have toys that they can relate to. Pretend play is so good for them – it builds emotional maturity and can help us counter a culture of toxic masculinity. We also have a large boy doll, Zayd, that we think you will love.

Faiz is the star of the pretend play game that I play with my nephews. He’s a really naughty kid (and of course the role I’ve been given in the game is to play the Mama who has to keep him out of trouble. I have to say that I fail to see what the pretend part of this game is – lol). But he’s also everyone’s favourite character – so much so that he hasn’t been assigned to any of my nephews because they want to take turns being Faiz.

We hope you love him as much as the boys and I do.

About this Small Crochet Boy Doll Pattern

This small crochet boy doll is part of our small crochet dress up dolls series. Unfortunately, we don’t have nearly enough boy clothes in the series – we really need to rectify this soon! His overalls are removable.

He works up to be 4.5 inches tall, which is the perfect size for pretend play. We crocheted him using DK yarn and a 2.5 mm hook but any yarn with the relevant hook will do.

The hair caps from any of the other Kozu Palm Pals mini dolls will fit him. If you wanted to make a boy doll with different hair, you could try the hair caps from our small Harry Pottery crochet doll or Ron Weasley crochet doll.

How to Crochet a Small Boy Doll

Body

To begin, first make the crochet doll body for your doll. Once you have made the body, come back here and we’ll begin Faiz’s hair and clothes!

Hair Cap

Note: This pattern comes with a plain hair cap for Faiz. However, any of the hair caps from our Kozu Palm Pals crochet dolls will fit this doll.

Round 1: SC 6 into a magic ring.

Round 2: INC in each stitch around (12)

Round 3: (SC, INC) six times (18)

Round 4: (2 SC, INC) six times (24)

Round 5-9 (5 rounds): SC in each stitch around (24)

Note: The hair cap width can vary based on the yarn that you’re using so try it onto your doll’s head and see if you want to increase or decrease rounds here before finishing off.

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing and sew the hair cap onto the head. Sew the ears onto the head in line with the hair cap, approximately 2-3 stitches away from the eyes. Use the yarn tail remaining after sewing on the hair cap to embroider sideburns in front of his ears.

Clothes

Tip: The clothes were designed using the same hook and yarn size as the doll. However, as you are making the clothes, keep trying them on your doll to ensure that they fit. If they are too snug or too big, you can go up or down a hook size.

The clothes should be put onto your doll from legs up, rather than over the head.

The clothes are crocheted in joined rounds. The slip stitch and chain between rounds do not count as stitches.

Note: This pattern is for overalls. However, the clothes are removable so you can dress him up with the clothes from any of the other dolls in our Kozu Palm Pals Dress Up Crochet Dolls series

The clothes are crocheted in joined rounds. The slip stitch and chain between rounds do not count as stitches.

Overalls

Round 1: Chain 20 and join to the first chain with a sl st. Be careful not to twist the chain.

Round 2-4 (3 rounds): SC around (20)

Round 5: SC 10 and join with a sl st to the first SC to make the first pant leg

Round 6: SC around and sl st to the first SC of the round (10). Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Attach yarn in the first unworked stitch from Round 5.

Now we will work on the second pant leg.

Attach yarn in the first unworked stitch from Round 5. Continue with the instructions from Round 5 for the second pant leg.

Use the ends to sew closed the hole between the legs.

We will now be making the bib for the overalls. Mark off 7 center stitches on the top of your pants. Now attach yarn to the first stitch and chain 1. The bib will be worked in rows.

Row 1: Chain 1. HDC is in the next 7 stitches. Turn

Row 2: Chain 1. HDC in each stitch. Chain 7 (or the amount you need so that the straps are loose enough to pull on and off but tight enough so that they don’t fall off) and sl st into the center stitch in the back of the overalls. Chain 7 and sl st into the first stitch of Row 2. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
